Five young talents win Economics Olympiad
While other Olympic champions run fast or jump far, the finalists of the Economics Olympiad understand economic relationships and present clever business ideas.
Five of them were awarded medals on May 5 and will go on to the international round:
- Benjamin Thut, Alte Kantonsschule Aarau (AG)
- Chima Johnson Iroh, Kantonsschule Zürich Nord (ZH)
- George Popovici, École Internationale de Genève (GE)
- Mauro Baumann, Berufs- und Weiterbildungszentrum Rapperswil-Jona (SG)
- Srishti Manivel, Kantonsschule Olten (SO)
Last Friday, the Economics Olympiad took place at UBS in Zurich Altstetten. Twelve students had qualified for the National Final and had to pass a political economics exam as well as present a business case. These young people analyzed various aspects of a Swiss company that deals in edible insects. Although they only had 90 minutes to prepare, they mastered their presentations well.
The finalists had already had the opportunity to practice at the "Innovation Camp," where they worked in groups and tied friendships.
The five winners will participate in the International Economics Olympiad in Greece from July 24 to August 2.
