Economics Olympiad

The Economics Olympiad is part of the Science Olympiads and is held annually. The most talented students from Switzerland and the Company Programme are selected and get to represent Switzerland at the International Economics Olympiad (IEO). They have to prove themselves in an online exam in the areas of finance, business administration and economics. 

Participation Requirements:

  • Participants must be younger than 20 years old as of June 30th, 2025.
  • Participants must either be enrolled at a Swiss or Liechtenstein school, have their principal residence in Switzerland or be a Swiss citizen.
  • Participants should not be enrolled at a university or a university of applied sciences and must have been working toward receiving a high school diploma or a similar degree as of December 1st, 2024.

    Online Exam

    The multiple-choice exam takes 45 minutes. It allows participants to demonstrate their knowledge of business topics. The twelve participants with the highest score qualify for the National Final. The exam cannot be repeated and must be solved individually.

  • Group

    Innovation Camp

    The top 12 from the first round will be invited to a 3-day Innovation Camp. Numerous workshops and activities will prepare them for the National Final. The finalists will receive coaching in economics and presentation techniques and will have the opportunity to meet like-minded business enthusiasts – all while ensuring that fun is not neglected.

    National Final

    The National Final, where the top twelve participants from the first round compete, consists of two parts: a written economics exam and the solving and presentation of a case study. The top five participants will represent Switzerland as a delegation at the International Economics Olympiad (IEO).

    International Economics Olympiad (IEO)

    The Swiss delegation will have to prove itself in the fields of economics, business, and finance. In addition to the individual exams, participants are challenged by solving and presenting a demanding 24-hour case study as a team.
