Two medals for the Swiss delegation at the International Economics Olympiad in Baku
After ten intense days, the Swiss delegation returned last Tuesday from the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) in Baku, Azerbaijan – bringing back medals, valuable experiences, and international connections.
By winning the Swiss National Economics Olympiad, Alisher Ruziev, Myles Willeke, Maximilian Thiersch, Zaina Rahman and Elihu Bao earned their ticket to the IEO in Azerbaijan. The competition placed high demands on the participants: in addition to challenging exams in economics and financial literacy, they had to solve a 24-hour business case. The Swiss team gave their all and succeeded in bringing home two medals.
Beyond the competition, cultural exchange was a central part of the experience: the delegation visited landmarks such as the Heydar Aliyev Center and the natural gas source Yanar Dag, and was personally welcomed by the Swiss Embassy in Baku. These experiences – along with the encounters with teams from around the world – made the journey a truly memorable one for the five students, who return to Switzerland not only with memories and medals, but also with valuable know-how and new contacts.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the International Economics Olympiad, the organizing team in Baku, and SCIENCE.OLYMPIAD.CH, whose support made participation possible. We also sincerely thank the co-coordinators Adrien Zaradez and Silvan Thut for their dedicated support of the delegation.
