60 debating talents from all over Switzerland met this Friday and Saturday, 4 and 5 April 2025, in the main building of die Mobiliar in Bern for the National Final of Youth debate! In moments of intense discussions, the students argued for the title of the best debater in the country.

The young people engaged with contemporary issues, such as whether Switzerland should aim for greater self-sufficiency by 2037, or the possibility of implementing a non-partisan system for electing federal judges. With clear, well-researched points of view and respectful dialogues, the participants impressed and showed that they are not just able to represent their own opinions, but also different points of view – a skill that is more important than ever in our society.

Between the debates, the young people were able to visit the exhibition organised by die Mobiliar on the subject of stress. After all, since debating is such a stressful activity, it was a great opportunity to fight against it.

A highlight was the visit to the Federal Palace, where the participants gained exciting insights into political practice in a round of discussion in the National Council chamber with Maja Riniker, Fabian Molina, Andrey Gerhard, Katja Christ and Federal Councillor Beat Jans.

The National Final of Youth Debate once again showed how important respectful and objective discussions are for democracy. The young talents proved that today's dialogues shape the decisions of tomorrow.

Congratulations to the winners! A big thank you also to our partners – Mobiliar, the Gossweiler Foundation and the Wegweiser Foundation – without their support this successful event would not have been possible.
